New York Giants offseason review: Biggest questions entering 2025 season

The New York Giants had a busy offseason and were the biggest movers on night one of the 2025 NFL draft. What are the questions for the leaving draft weekend?

Is the defensive line the best in football?

The Giants had a few core pieces on their defensive front but they needed to round it out with some depth. They did a little more than that. Abdul Carter fell into their lap, but is a perfect fit across from Brian Burns. For now, this has Kayvon Thibodeaux into a rotational role. Even Chauncey Golston had 6.5 sacks for the Cowboys last year and he is the fourth rusher in this rotation.

Dexter Lawrence was getting defensive player of the year praise last year and the team added Roy Robertson-Harris in free agency and Darius Alexander in the draft. They already had Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Not may team can do eight deep on the line like the New York Giants.

Will the cornerbacks hold the defense back?

The Giants look solid at safety and linebacker, and the question holding them back is their cornerback room. Deonte Banks was benched last year, and while he has all of the tools and looks to be getting a chance this year, he is a major wildcard.

They added Paulson Adebo, but he is coming off a broken thigh. Cordale Flott is small for the outside, but Dru Phillips is their best asset in the slot. Adebo and Banks have upside to make this the best defense in the NFL and downside to ruin it.

What’s going to happen at quarterback?

It is hard to find a role for Jameis Winston after the Giants drafted Jaxon Dart. The plan has to be for Russell Wilson to start because Dart came from a non-traditional offense and will have to learn a lot of the verbiage and reads that the NFL requires. Still, he needs reps, so the team would be wise to start him as the number two.

Russell Wilson will start, but the GM and head coach are on the hot seat. The second issues arise they will move to Dart because any flashes Dart shows can save their jobs.

What’s going to happen at running back?

The Giants saw Tyrone Tracy break out in what looked like a great fit last season. That did not stop them from taking Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 draft. Devin Singletary is in the mix, but considering the burst of Tracy and the grind-it-out mentality of Skattebo, it is hard to find a role for Singletary. Still, because Tracy is such a pass-catching threat, it will limit a lot of the fantasy upside that Skattebo could have brought.

Will Marcus Mbow start at right guard?

The Giants had a big need at right guard and did not address it until day three of the 2025 NFL draft. To be fair, most saw Purdue tackle Marcus Mbow as a day two draft pick at guard. However, his transition and fit must have left questions as he was a big faller. Did the Giants land a starter in round five, or are they risking it on a player the league did not want?
