Tyleik Williams to the Detroit Lions
The Lions build around superstar Aidan Hutchinson and ensure they will continue to wreak havoc in the trenches on defense with the addition of Tyleik Williams from Ohio State. Williams is a big body with a relentless motor that doesn’t stop til the ballcarrier is down. He’s a plus run defender who has a feel for when the running back is cutting his way and sheds blocks timely to make the tackle.
Jihaad Campbell to the Philadelphia Eagles
I love this pick. The Eagles get the best interior LB in the draft and one that fits their scheme and team very well. Campbell is a modern linebacker with a rangy build, but makes up for his lack of size with the speed and athletic ability to make plays from sideline to sideline. With the star studded Eagles D-line now in front of him, Campbell will be able to run freely in the second level and use his athletic skillset to make plays like he’s been doing in Tuscaloosa.
Luther Burden III to the Chicago Bears
This was a cool one to see. My comp for LB3 was none other than DJ Moore, but aside from that, the thought of wunderkind Ben Johnson scheming up plays for Burden is very intriguing and I can’t wait to watch. It may take a year for this one to really pay its dividends, but Chicago is definitely doing everything in their power to put pieces around quarterback Caleb Williams.
Donovan Ezeiruaku to the Dallas Cowboys
Out of all the guys on this list, I was the most shocked that Donovan Ezeiruaku didn’t go in the first round. I felt he was in the same conversation as Shemar Stewart and James Pierce – players who were physical freaks but had question marks elsewhere. The other 2 did end up going R1, but Ezeiruaku fell to round 2 and honestly it might be the best situation for him. He now gets to learn and line up across from Micah Parsons.
JT Tuimoloau to the Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are doing a legit rebuild of their defense. The free agent additions of Bynum and Charvarius Ward helped sure up the secondary, and adding Tuimoloau to a deep defensive line that includes Deforest Buckner and last year’s first round pick, Laiatu Latu, could be the beginning of a young, formidable front.
Shavon Revel to the Dallas Cowboys
In my opinion, the Cowboys day 2 of the draft was an absolute home run. This time, with their third round pick they get Shavon Revel from Eastern Carolina. Revel is a dog. He’s a gritty DB who likes to tackle and isn’t afraid of stuffing the gap and taking the running back head-on. He’s got a long, lanky frame that helps him cover more area when in zone, and makeup for broken coverages in man. With the injury questions around Trevon Diggs, I think this was a nice add by Dallas to help bring more than just depth to the position behind Bland.
Barryn Sorrell to the Green Bay Packers
Sorrell is another guy that I was surprised to see go where he did. His combine numbers don’t jump at you, but the tape does. He’s a sure tackler and patient rusher, who has a knack for getting into the backfield but rarely loses containment from over-pursuit. Though he was a rotational piece at Texas, he’s a solid end with no issues shifting inside and goes to a team that will use him in similar fashion.
Riley Leonard to the Indianapolis Colts
This one is an honorable mention, but I was impressed with what I saw from Riley Leonard this season and at the combine. When I watch the film I always seem to be reminded how athletic the guy is. He’s not afraid to run, and not afraid to run up the middle of the field. He plays a similar style to current Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, (minus the cannon, though I think Leonard has a better feel for putting touch on his passes and layering the ball) and has the tools to succeed in Shane Steichen’s offense. There’s a bit of cluster in the position group at the moment with the team recently acquiring Daniel Jones as well, but I like what I see from Leonard and will be curious to watch how many opportunities he can carve out for himself.
